AUTOMATED LINES AND FILAMENT WINDING EQUIPMENT FOR UTILITY POLE PRODUCTION 

Autonational provides both turnkey fully automated pole (segment) production lines and individual filament winding machines for pole production. Our easily sizeable & expandable lines are composed from Autonational standard modular equipment, and include integrated resin mixing & dosing, winding, curing, extraction, machining, testing and automated transport & handling, if required.

 

 

An automated pole production line consist of different machines performing different steps in the process. In the first step of production a filament winding machine winds glass fibers onto a mandrel in a prescribed pattern to form the basis of the pole structure. The winding machine receives its empty (prepared) mandrels from a automated mandrel feeder and the fiberglass yarn (also roving or fabric) is derived from a l creel system. Via the creel, the fiber is impregnated in a resin tray filled with resin before it reaches the mandrel.

In the second step a surface of resin impregnated fiber is applied. Heat is then applied, in a continuous or box oven, to initiate cross linking (hardening) of the resin. After hardening, the pole segment is removed from the mandrel, is trimmed to length and any required holes are drilled. In the final step of the process the segments can be finished with top coatings based on for example pigmented polyurethane.

  • Suitable for high volume automated production with low labor costs.
  • Poles with higher mechanical properties compared to using centrifugal casting or pultrusion.
  • Allows for a wide selection of thermoset matrices such as epoxy, polyester, vinylester and polyurethane.
  • Allows for the production of cylindrical, oval, & tapered utility poles.


MODULAIR POLE SYSTEM 

With the filament winding machines and production lines of Autonational modular pole segments can be created which can be combined with up to eight standard-sized tubular modules to create poles with heights ranging from approx. 30 ft. (9.1 m) to 155 ft. (47.2 m) that use standard industry hardware.

The winding process and added belonging steps are fully CNC controlled. Programmable settings define an exact orientations of the fibres over the mandrel to achieve required pole strength, thickness and flexibility.
